Sam Hunt Leaves The Lights To Bandit

May 2015

Rising country star Sam Hunt is having a fantastic year, with his first album Montevallo becoming the bestselling country debut album since 2011, certified gold, and two number ones on Billboard’s country airplay charts. He’s now on tour with lighting provided by Bandit Lites, bringing his smooth sound to established country fans and winning new listeners every day.

Designer Mark Steinwachs worked closely with Hunt, production manager Bob Harmon and manager Brad Belanger to create a specific vibe for the shows, while still creating powerful lighting looks using only one or two colors per song with programming provided by John Lucksinger.

“Working with an artist the first time is always unique because you are learning to interpret what they say, and how you can create that on stage,” explained Steinwachs. “They wanted clean lines on stage, so we used a railing system from Accurate Staging to make two distinct lines of fixtures on the upstage. This gave us a variety of looks to play with to keep songs looking different throughout the show.”

Bandit Vice President Mike Golden and Steinwachs worked together to choose fixtures that provided the most bang for the buck while also remaining space efficient. With insight from Bandit’s Director of Technical Services, Jake Tickle, the team settled on GLP X4S, Elation Cuepix Blinders, Chauvet Colordash Accents, and Bandit GRN Washes.

“The idea was to keep the rig compact and punchy,” Steinwachs said. “It was designed to be a club tour, so we didn't know what the venue would have each show. It was programmed to let the touring package do the bulk of the work with the house rig to accent and fill as it could each day.”
